Iowa Prairie Network is a nonprofit dedicated to preserving Iowa’s prairies and providing education to the public about prairie conservation. Their existing website had come together piecemeal, with the core pages being created in the early 2000s. I was hired to update the website, simplify the navigation, improve the user experience and ensure the new site was SEO-friendly.
We went with a static site as the majority of IPN’s web presence was on Facebook; the website mainly housed evergreen content. Static sites required virtually no maintenance and are significantly more secure than a CMS. With content updates being infrequent, removing the maintenance burden of the website was the best option for the small nonprofit.
The website is built with Bootstrap and a fair amount of custom CSS I wrote for IPN. You can see the website here.
